About Us

The Insurance Institute of Mauritius (IIM) was launched in 1994.

      Objectives of IIM

(a)  Provide and maintain a central organisation for members of the Institute;

(b)  Encourage and assist in the advancement of insurance education and knowledge and generally to promote any scheme which may tend to raise the standard of the insurance profession in the Republic of Mauritius;

(c)  Arrange for periodical meetings, the delivery of lectures, reading of papers on subjects of professional or topical interest, and to disseminate by any other means, information calculated to be of value to members;

(d)  Afford opportunities for communication among members, including the arrangement of social functions;

(e)  Generally promote the interests of the members.

  •         Membership of the Institute is open to all those employed or engaged in the insurance business (ordinary membership) or interested in insurance (associate membership).

  •         From 87 members in 1994 the Institute now counts around 550 members who enjoy a range of benefits including reduced participation fees to IIM educational events, participation to IIM social activities, reduced CII examination and tuition fees same as a CII member.

  •        Affiliated to the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) UK, the IIM is responsible for the supervision of the qualifying examinations of the CII in Mauritius.

The primary aim of the IIM, which is registered as a training institution with the Mauritius Qualifications Authority, remains education.  To assist employers in having a well-trained workforce face-to-face courses are offered to help insurance staff to develop the latest practical skills and thinking whether they are new entrants or senior professionals.

The Institute collaborates actively with the Financial Services Commission on topical issues.
